How to Play

Getting Started

Creating an Account

Mystrige uses Google sign-in. Click Sign In on the homepage and authenticate with your Google account. Once signed in, you'll land on your player dashboard.

Installing the App

Mystrige works in any browser, but for the best experience on mobile, install it as a progressive web app (PWA). When you open the site on your phone, you'll see an install prompt — or check the App Guide for step-by-step instructions.

Your Dashboard

After signing in, your dashboard (/play) shows three sections:

  • Pending Invitations — games you've been invited to but haven't accepted yet.
  • Games You're Playing — active sessions you've joined.
  • Completed Games — past sessions (collapsed by default).

Joining a Game

By Invitation

When a moderator invites you, the invitation appears on your dashboard and on the Invitations page (/play/invitations). Open it and tap Accept. The session will move to your active games.

By Join Code

If you have a 6-character join code, go to Join (/play/join). Enter the code (it auto-uppercases) and, if the session is password-protected, the password. Tap Request to Join — the moderator will need to approve your request.

The Lobby

After joining, you'll see a lobby screen while the moderator assigns characters. Once assigned, the game interface appears automatically.

The Game Interface

Once you're assigned a character, the game has seven tabs. Everything you need is here.

Character

This is your identity for the game. You'll see:

  • Portrait — your character's image (if available).
  • Name and description — who you are in the story.
  • Objective — your character's goal.
  • Background — your character's backstory and context.

Read this carefully — it shapes everything you do.

Clues & Tasks

Clues are pieces of information your character discovers as the game progresses. They appear here, organized by type:

  • Character Info — details about other characters.
  • Prophecy — predictions or foreshadowing.
  • Task — actions you need to complete in the real world (talk to someone, find something, etc.).
  • Response Task — a task that requires a written response.

You can:

  • Filter by round — view clues from the current round, previous rounds, or all rounds.
  • Hide completed tasks — toggle to focus on what's left.
  • Mark tasks as complete — check off tasks once you've finished them.

New clues unlock as the moderator advances rounds. Check back after each round change.

Voting

This is where you cast your vote on quorum decisions (see Voting & Quorums below). You can:

  • View current ballots — see which events are open for voting.
  • Cast or change your vote — select an outcome for each ballot.
  • Lock your vote — finalize your choice (you can still unlock it later if needed).
  • View results — after the moderator resolves an event, see the vote tallies.

Events

Once the moderator resolves events, the results appear here. You'll see:

  • Event descriptions — what happened in the story.
  • Outcomes — which result was chosen.
  • Pass/fail status — whether each outcome occurred.
  • Vote breakdowns — how everyone voted (expandable).

Endings

After the game is complete, this tab reveals:

  • Your personal result — whether your character won or lost.
  • Win condition details — which outcomes your character needed and whether they happened.
  • The game ending — the narrative conclusion.
  • All characters' results — who won and who lost.

Messages

The moderator can send you in-character messages. This tab is your inbox:

  • Unread messages appear at the top with a badge indicator.
  • Mark individual messages as read by tapping them.
  • Mark all as read with the bulk action button.
  • Messages include timestamps and are specific to your character — other players can't see yours.

Directory

A roster of all characters in the session. You can see:

  • Character names and descriptions.
  • Which player is assigned to each character.
  • Your own character is highlighted.

Voting & Quorums

What Are Quorums?

Quorums are key votes that shape the story. During certain rounds, events will have ballots attached — these are the quorums. Each ballot presents a set of possible outcomes, and players vote on which one should happen.

Casting Your Vote

  1. Go to the Voting tab.
  2. Find the active ballot for the current round.
  3. Select the outcome you want.
  4. Optionally lock your vote to signal you're done (you can unlock it later).

Changing Your Vote

You can change your vote at any time while the ballot is open. Just select a different outcome. Your vote isn't final until the moderator resolves the event.

How Outcomes Work

  • Each ballot has multiple possible outcomes.
  • The outcome with the most votes wins.
  • If there's a tie, the scenario's designated tiebreaker outcome is used.
  • The outcome affects the story and may determine which characters win.

Strategy

  • Your character's win conditions depend on specific outcomes passing or failing.
  • Other players have different (possibly conflicting) win conditions.
  • Persuading, bluffing, and forming alliances are all part of the game.
  • Remember: you can lie about your vote when talking to other players, but the ballot shows the truth.

Clues & Tasks

Clue Types

  • Character Info — gives you information about other characters. Use this to figure out who might be working with or against you.
  • Prophecy — hints about what might happen. These can help you plan your voting strategy.
  • Task — a real-world action to complete (e.g., "Tell the Wizard that you saw the Alien near the reactor"). Mark it done once completed.
  • Response Task — requires you to submit a written response. The moderator will review it.

Completing Tasks

  1. Open the Clues & Tasks tab.
  2. Find the task you've completed.
  3. Tap the checkbox to mark it done.
  4. The moderator can see your completion status.

Round Progression

Clues are revealed round by round. When the moderator advances to a new round, new clues may appear. Check back after each round change to see what's new.

Messages

The moderator uses the message system to communicate with you in-character. You might receive:

  • Story prompts or narrative updates.
  • Questions about your actions or decisions.
  • Information specific to your character.

When you receive a message, respond as your character would. Don't ignore moderator messages — they're part of the game.

Win Conditions & Endings

How Win Conditions Work

Every character has secret win conditions that define what needs to happen for them to win. These are tied to quorum outcomes:

  • Some outcomes must pass for your character to win.
  • Some outcomes must fail for your character to win.
  • Win conditions can require ALL of their conditions to be met, or ANY of them.

You don't know other characters' win conditions — that's part of the social deduction.

Checking Results

After the game is completed:

  1. Go to the Endings tab.
  2. See whether you won or lost.
  3. Expand the details to see which conditions were met or missed.
  4. Read the game ending narrative.
  5. See how all characters fared.

Tips

  • Check in after each round. New clues and ballots may appear.
  • Don't share private clues. Per the Rules, private clue information is yours alone.
  • Use the Directory to keep track of who's who.
  • Lock your vote when you're sure — it signals to the moderator that you're ready.
  • Real-time updates keep your screen current. If something seems stale, try refreshing.
  • Push notifications alert you to new messages, votes, and round changes. Make sure you've allowed notifications in your browser settings.
